Wow! Norway is legit, probably one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. I loved it. It was so beautiful and I had many cool experiences during my stay!
(Day 1) We got to our first place in Stavanger, Norway about 3:30 PM and I went to bed at 5:30 PM but I woke up at 9:45 PM and I could not go back to sleep. :( We had planned to wake up at 4:00 AM to get a start on our way to Pulpit Rock. You could say, I was kind of tired. haha. Our place we stayed at was very nice and super cute.
(Day 2) We took a ferry over by where the hike to Pulpit Rock was and oh my gosh we watched the sunrise outside and it was beautiful!! After getting off the ferry we took a bus to a certain point and then I wasn’t really myself that morning due to a lack of sleep. I wasn’t “fully charged.” We were walking and all the sudden my phone alarm went off in my pack. It was an alarm to remind me to say my morning prayers. And then a little bit later another notification came on showing me a scripture for the day and it was about prayer as well. I decided to pray. Eventually my hard feelings went away and I felt so much better. I finished the hike, and it was awesome.
Oh my gosh the view at the top of Pulpit Rock was AMAZING!! It was incredible! The hike was quite a hike though. It had so many HUGE rock steps. Also on the way down it started to rain, so it got slippery too. We weren’t expecting it to be this hard but it was still so worth it.
Most people have what’s called binocular vision. But I have monocular vision. I can see well but only with one eye and barely out of the other. Sometimes this can be hard because I don’t see everything so clearly. If you want to get an idea of how I see, cover one eye and catch a tennis ball. :) While I was hiking, I had to scan the area before a lot of steps, and there were many steps. Usually I can say that my vision is not a big deal, but on this hike it was quite a challenge. Sometimes when I have support where I hold on to something, I’m more confident. I had to hold onto my dad a little bit on the hike. Once I did, I was more confident. It was kinda cool.
We took an overnight train tonight and arrived the next morning into Oslo.
(day 3) We arrived in Oslo!! This morning we walked around the city a bit and then worked our way over to a Vikings museum. This was actually really cool! There were a whole bunch of displays of Viking boats and other items found from that time period. We then went to the Holocaust museum. I get very interested in the Holocaust. Sometimes I just can’t believe how crazy those days were. I liked having the opportunity to learn about it more.
My Aunt Heather has some friends that live in Oslo. She set us up to go meet them. It was fun getting to know them and spending the afternoon with them. We went to this sculpture park with them. It had tons of body sculptures. They were sculpted by Gustav Vigeland. It was really cool and just overall such a beautiful park.
We caught another overnight train heading to Bergen. We stayed in a sleeper train this time. It was way cool but man such tight space!!
(day 4) We arrived in Bergen! We caught a ferry to Flåm which was a 5 hour ride. I went outside in the back of the ferry and we went through some fjords and it was breathtakingly beautiful! (It was kinda cold though). Once we got to our place we decided to rent bikes and go to this old farm area. It was such a gorgeous spot!! My family sat up on a bench that was up there and enjoyed the view. We headed down and got dinner and the food was amazing! I got a Belgian waffle which was heaven. Lol.
(day 5) Last night my family picked out pastries for this morning’s breakfast. They were delicious! We headed to the train station and took a scenic train called Flåmsbana. I loved this ride. I could look outside and see all this beautiful nature. I seriously love the nature God has created for us. His art is beautiful. We passed this giant waterfall! Which was amazingly gorgeous! The train stopped so the passengers could get out and take pictures and enjoy the view. I loved it.
We took a few more long train rides back to the airport in Oslo. Our time is up in Norway and now onto Sweden!!! Norway was definitely one for the books. ;)
