HOW MUCH DO I LOVE HOLLAND?! THIS MUCH…!!
Right when we got to Amsterdam, we dropped off our bags at our Airbnb and left for the Anne Frank House. The Anne Frank house was amazing and so worth waiting in line for 2 hours!! We had Holland’s good fries to hold us up. Haha. My little siblings, and my dad, and I went on a paddle boat through Amsterdam’s sweet canals. The buildings are something else.
There are sooo many bikes here! People bike everywhere. It seems kinda dangerous at how many there are. haha and NO HELMETS... yikes.
The next day we went to Rotterdam. Alkmaar is a cheese market, where cheese used to be sold and workers would haul the big cheese back and forth from the factory. It was really cool to learn a little about the cheese. There were cheese stands everywhere. We could sample all kinds of cheese and I might have tried a little too many. I love cheese. Lol. After we finished with the cheese, we went to a Dutch shoe or clogs store. I vaguely remember coming to one of these stores a long time ago. It was fun coming back and looking at all the kinds of clogs they had. There are seriously so many kinds!
When I was little (4 years old) I came to the Netherlands with my family and my grandparents were on the trip with us. My Grandpa Hofman was born in the Netherlands and he gave my family a tour around his home town. I was a little too young to remember this, so it was really awesome to come back and see it again. When I was here with my grandparents, we went to this place called Kinderdijk. I rode a boat with my grandparents while the rest of my family road bikes. I saw my family riding and I yelled out to them from the boat “IT’S ME HALLE! I’M ON A BOAT!!” haha. Anyway, we got to go to Kinderdijk and a whole bunch of memories flashed back. I saw the boats similar to the ones I rode on, and I saw all the windmills. It was absolutely beautiful. My family biked some ways down past all the windmills and got some cool pictures. This was definitely a day I’ll always remember. :)
Our last day, we spent the day in Amsterdam. We met up with our good friend, Inge (Elly Moomey's niece) and went out to breakfast. I got my favorite food, from Holland, Poffertjies! They have always been my favorite. Poffertjies are like mini pancakes with powdered sugar goodness or chocolate goodness. Then we decided to tour the Royal Palace before we caught the train to the airport. There was cool history in there! We had to make one more fries stop.... trust me! They are amazing! Inge went with us to the train station and we split off. It was a super fun trip in the Netherlands and I “AM-STER-DAM” sad to leave. Lol. get my pun? ;)
So I didn't really think to take a picture before I ate them.... lol. Here's a picture of them from my previous time in Amsterdam.
As you can see I was a little sad when my poffertjies were gone. ;)
Just for fun, here's a picture of me eating them many years ago with my grandma Hofman.
I’m proud of my Dutch heritage. If you ain’t Dutch, you ain’t much. ;) For now I'm just kissing Holland goodbye... but I'll be back.
